How to increase mental immunity || Dr. Abida Sultana
Mental immunity empowers a person to survive against stress, fear, uncertainty, inferiority complex and negative thoughts. And ensures mental balance by reducing their negative effects on the mind.
Things you can do to
boost your immune system:
1. Don't run away or
avoid the situation:
We usually want to get
rid of or avoid any kind of painful and distressing situation. This tendency to
escape often has negative consequences. Because, no matter how unfavorable the
reality, it is not possible to get rid of it by denying it. On the contrary,
various mental conflicts are created.
2. Don't think of any
emotion as part of your identity:
It is normal for fear,
anxiety to work in us due to uncertainty. But don't consider these fears and
anxieties a part of your personality and self-identity. That is, existing fears
and anxieties are not who you are. This type of fear and anxiety is an
automatic, temporary and natural response of your body and mind to an
unfamiliar and uncertain situation. So they should be accepted calmly without
trying to remove them from the mind and without imposing any kind of personal
meaning on them, keep yourself busy with pleasant or daily household chores.
The effect of existing fear and anxiety will gradually decrease.
3. Acknowledge your
disability:
At this time various
disastrous thoughts may come in the mind. For example: will the relationship
with the dear person be severed or not, will the job go or not, will the family
and relatives be affected by any major illness or not. When catastrophic
thoughts occur, you also need to realize that not everything in our lives is
under our control. So try to openly acknowledge this inability and respect it
as a natural sign of change rather than letting catastrophic thoughts block
you.
It will increase the
ability to accept everything like and dislike. At some point, you will find
that the catastrophic thoughts will stop repeating themselves in your mind.
4. Think about the
present, not the past or the future:
Another effective way
to boost your immune system is to try to keep your mind in the present moment
without letting your mind wander to the past or future. It's a bit difficult.
Because our mind always jumps between past thoughts and sometimes future
thoughts. When the mind becomes too fixated on something from the past,
depression builds up in us. And when we become more focused on the future, we
develop anxiety. Excessive past and future thoughts create guilt and panic. So
to increase mental immunity we should always keep our mind inside our body.
Because our body always lives in the present.
While doing the work,
one should try to keep the mind fixed in that work. Apart from this, try to
meditate for at least five minutes every morning, afternoon and night by
focusing on your breathing or paying attention to the rise and fall of the
lower abdomen during breathing. This is because meditation gradually increases
your ability to hold your mind in the present and informs you about the nature
of your mind.
5. Create genuine
bonds with relatives
Creating and
maintaining genuine bonds with family members, relatives and neighbors is very
important. Because, positive relationships keep the mind fresh all the time and
increase the positive energy of the mind.
We should try to help
people sincerely as much as possible. It increases the solidarity of people
with people. Solidarity helps people to overcome feelings of loneliness.
6. Be creative:
Try to do some small
creative work every day. It increases confidence. Drugs and excessive tea and
coffee should not be used as coping strategies. External and internal sources
of stress must be intelligently identified. Stressors that can be dealt with in
the present must be dealt with rationally. And the elements that cannot be
controlled at the moment, should be excluded from the list of thoughts and
avoided. It will increase your self-control.
7. Ensure adequate
sleep:
At least eight hours
of sleep should be ensured daily at proper time. Because, adequate sleep
increases mental and physical immunity. You have to practice bathing regularly,
washing your own clothes, cleaning your own room.Helping others with household
chores will help make your day meaningful. Along with that, nutritious food and
native fruits should be ensured in the daily food list and regular exercise
should be done even for a short period of time.
Finally, practice a
positive attitude towards yourself and the future. All life and nature of the
world should be accepted as friends.
